Assemble power paragraphs

Review these elements

  • One topic per paragraph
    • Recognize parts
      • Topic sentence
      • Supporting sentences
      • Move others to new paragraphs
  • Eliminate warm-up paragraphs
    • Often top two paragraphs in a draft are warm-ups for real content
    • As an athlete needs warm-up, so do writers
    • However, discard them before submitting a final draft
    • Hint: Look for real beginning of a piece in the 3rd paragraph
    • Rewrite with that new beginning
  • "Prove" expressions of opinion or modifiers
  • Write for "scanners"
