Evaluate these fund-raising letters

Review elements of fund-raising letters. Then examine the following:

  • How do these letters compare to the the characteristics of good fund-raising letters?
  • In the sample letters the elements appear in the left column, and the text of the letter in the right.
  • What is your evaluation of the various parts of the letters? The first four letters were sent to me as solicitation letters.
  • After you have read each of the letters and made your assessment, click on the "editor's version" button at the bottom of the page to read a revised letter.
  • The final two letters are major gift cultivation letters; however, they too require many of the same elements that a formal solicitation requires.
  • The final item in this list is a template you could use in composing your fund-raising letters. It may help you focus on what each section of a letter requires.
